Malfunto stood, his back to the city, watching the sunset over the beach. "Ah, what a beautiful day it is indeed" He said to himself, envisioning a horse, or someone to share it with by his side. He looked around, his long blonde hair swaying in the wind. The sun shone softly against his skin, and he thought had all the looks of a Greek God, except for that little scar on his chin. He covered it with make-up every morning, so no one would recognise that it was there, but, oh, it was there.

Ariphias moved slowly, his back turned to the future as he eyed his trails along the sandy shores. One to a thousand steps, endless tracks in the sand, small crevices left by passing creatures upon the world. Rain and waves to wash away every scar upon the earth no matter how deep, cold winds, the salty ocean spray, so beautiful and likewise so tasteless. As these thoughts came and all these thoughts passed as the rippling waves upon the endless sea, one the same as the next, but each forgotten upon passing. He gave a light smile as he pivoted in his steps, turning his back to Oceanus and staring into an endlessly blue portion of the sky, affected not even by the setting of the star they chose to call Helios. He grinned, his bright eyes glimmering as he began once more to count his steps, one, two, letting the winds whip his high ponytail about, putting a hand to his face such that his flowing hair would not disturb the view, three, four. Ariphias closed his eyes, five, six, he took in the pulse of the winds, seven, and then he stopped completely. His attire had brushed something and he immediately turned. "Ah, I'm-" once he'd caught sight of the figure he immediately backed away to get the full picture, tilting his head upwards and staring with wide eyes, "sorry," he finished, stunned.

Malfunto mumbled to himself, as he was bumped by something. "Oh god, I'm so freaking fat". He turned to see who had bumped into him, and was astonished by the wonderful person who stood before him. "Oh, hi, I'm Malfunto, it's ok." He said, and extended his hand. The wind swept up his hair yet again, and it splayed out behind him, separated into little strands by the gusting currents. This ponytailed man was so, intruiging, that Mal simply had to know more about him. This man wore makeup, something Mal could only wish to do, and his wonderful hair. How the hell did he keep it straight. So much to ask, but so little time!
Mal pondered the possibilities as to what he could say, while waiting for an answer. The sun set over the water, it's golden hues reflecting in every facet of the choppy waves.

Ariphias blinked, he took the hand offered to him in his own long, delicate fingers, "Ria," he spoke with a soft smile and a gentle tone as was in his nature. As he spoke, he shook the other's hand with instinctive subtlety. Once he had released his light grip, he continued, "it's a pleasure to meet." He looked up at the figure with his leaf green eyes, staring in fascination until the ocean breeze drew his attention to the setting sun. He smiled at it, the days were each marked by the same passing of the hours, their patterns of rest marked by the steady breathing of the sun, the life of the earth as it endlessly spun made their own breaths seem just that much more limited, their footprints only that much more insignificant. At the same time, the slow yet unified pulse was beautiful, lovely. Every footprint was different from the last, every grain of sand it's own, every sunset differed from the one before, the distinctness of every segment of the Earth, the miraculous integrity formed by these individual pieces, it was strange, it was amazing, overwhelming, endearing.
As another wave surfaced from the abysmal sea, leaving the shores it licked changed and yet the same; as the ceaseless ocean wind became, for a split second, subdued, Ariphias grasped his long, dark locks, he ran his graceful fingers through them before letting the strands ride the wind and escape through his hand as water through void. His thin lips barely moved as he whispered, "this world has an amazing way of ending a day..." into the wind, letting the tempest take his words and Oceanus his thoughts. He pivoted his gaze once more to the tall figure, staring with glistening green eyes, "doesn't it?"

Malfunto closed his eyes, listening to the melodic tone of this man's voice. He wondered if the man knew whether or not he was gay, and whether or not he was interested. 'Dammit Mal, always being the stupid relationship challenged bastard! stop it, you're better than that, you fatass!' He thought to himself, chuckling at his own stupidity. He openened his eyes, and released the other man's hand. "ah, it does, most certainly. I've been riding off into that sunset every day since school started this year, alone." He said the last word as if it were a huge secret that he could never tell anyone, especially a stranger. Malfunto smiled awkwardly.
He noticed a small glint in the sand next to him, and stooped down, to pick it up. It was a shell with a piece of mica stuck in it. It was strange how the soft, flintlike stone could have embedded itself in the calcite shell, meant to withstand unimaginable pressures. "well, would you look at that?" He asked, and handed it to the stranger, trying to change the subject, desperately. He stood there, and flipped his long blonde hair, making it dance in the wind before settling back down on his shoulders. He glared at the setting sun, cursing this moment for not lasting longer on a daily basis.

Ariphias tilted his head slightly at the awkward smile and the given words and tone, he was curious but had not the will to pursue. He pondered the final word of the first topic, a long time, a short time, he knew not. Loneliness or Solitude, the suffix -tude, of Latin origins, a state of being. Prefix Soli-, originating from the word "sole", also of Latin origins. He continued to trace through words in his mind, the random trivia he picked up kept him so very entertained. As the shell was handed to him he blinked, smiling his soft smile once more, taking it carefully into his own hand. He stared with his gleaming eyes, maybe because it no longer had a life within it. Maybe because it had surfaced, it had been penetrated. His eyes once again locked on the rippling waves, trying to distinguish the difference between one breath and the next. One had met it's end, another's had just begun, and then he looked beyond, back at the shell, to Helios as his rays began to disappear, to Selene whose soft light had revealed itself when they concentrated upon the dieing light of the former. He put the shell in the light of Luna, knowing that her light would never reach so long as the bright star lived, even just slightly above the horizon. His unblinking green eyes stared as he attempted to take in the world. Once he did blink, though, he turned his attention back to the shell, running his soft fingers along the smooth inner surface, "hard to believe it was once alive, makes one wonder if it can see the butterfly it leaves on the shore once it dies. Makes one wonder if it ever knew it was beautiful," he spoke quietly and lightly, as if speaking of sunny days and evergreen meadows, "makes one wonder if mirrors are any good if one can't see their own beauty," he finished with the same light tone and happy smile before switching the topic once more, "you go to the school?" he asked, nodding toward the school just beyond the shores.

"yes, I'm a student there, you?" Malfunto responded cautiously. He wasn't going to say something stupid. "now, let's see, homework, or lovely sunset stalking?" Malfunto mumbled to himself, simply organizing his priorities. "I think I'll stay here, I don't really care about that." He said, and sat down in the sand, folding his vest and lying on top of it. It was one of the great pleasures of the world to be able to do this, he thought. Mal let a smile spread across his face, and he opened his eyes, watching the twilight sky turn from all sorts of colorful hues to pure darkness, the mirror image of the sky in his home-town.
((sorry it's so short!))

Ariphias watched as the man laid down and nodded happily, "in that case, I'll be seeing you around," he said with a delighted smile. His green eyes shimmered as he shifted his gaze from the fading light of Helios to the growing beauty of Selene. He shifted his light-pink skirt slightly, fiddling with the lace as he considered sitting down as well. Washing out the smell of the ocean from the layers would be troublesome, but likewise there was nothing wrong with a cool and salty oceanic smell. He thought a moment longer and decided against it, thinking that if he wanted to smell of the sea he would have taken up swimming lessons when he had arrived to one end of Oceanus. He raised an eyebrow, had he taken swimming lessons? He shrugged the question off as he returned his gaze to the awe inspiring figure on the ground. He nodded again once the latter words had passed through his brain. He gave a light smile, "homework already? Must be tough, which year?"

"well, I'm really a 3rd year, but I'm in mostly AP classes, Brown is my dream school, and I can't wait to see that acceptance letter!* Malfunto said, and squealed with excitement. "oops, sorry! ignore the girlish sqeal" He said, and stood, chuckling. He looked towards the ocean, and grabbed his saddle-bag from the ground next to him. "Anyway, It was nice meeting you Ari, but I should really be going, the twilight has gone too far to be stalked. I'm sorry." He said, and walked off, the light casting dancing shadows as he walked away. His mind raced. "OH, I'm in room 308!" He yelled back towards the man as he ran off, his footprints making marks in the sand.

Ariphias raised his hand slightly and gave a light wave, "it was a pleasure," he said with his gentle smile. "Room 308, huh? Rings a bell," he whispered as he watched the figure disappear; his arm fall to his side once the man was out of sight, the thin limb landed softly in the layers that coated his legs. Then he turned his attention back to the sky, the sunset had passed, and twilight was slowly fading, soon it would be Selene's turn. Ariphias turned his head upward, he lifted his arms as if in flight and let the cold winds carry his light linen sleeves lined with lace, his long, dark hair traveled swiftly through the currents and the rushing wind muted his ears a moment. Once the sense returned vaguely, the young junior gave a light shiver as he realized the cold and the crashing of the dieing waves began to resemble the one thing he dreaded most. Still, he gave a light smile as he waved goodbye to ever-breathing Oceanus and began to take his leave.
And then he froze entirely as he realized why the room number rang a bell, "this year should be interesting, then," he said with a soft smile, closing his eyes in a light sigh. He turned his head lightly, his dark locks reacted to the motion with a sharp flick, and he stared at the place where the figure had faded and let a small laugh escape his lips, wondering what the reaction would be once his new roommate realized what he just had.
