Taiihphel sighed, the dance had begun, he was still alone with his sister and no progress had been made. He nudged her gently, "sorry, we have somewhere to go and things to do. Only after it's over can you rest, but you'll rest more at ease," he spoke softly to the resting girl in his arms.

Briar jumped a little, startling awake. "Oh, crap," she mumbled, "You need to go to the dance. Like, NOW." she gave her brother a squeeze and rolled out of his arms, stretching and yawning.

"Sorry to wake you," Taiihphel smiled a soft smile, his dark eyes examining his sister, his heart shattered at the thought of the confrontation and his mind wandered about slowly. None of this showed, though, and none of it would. He took his sister back into his arms, gently, "we've other places to tend to. It'll be a long night, and, I'm sorry," he spoke quietly into her ear, running his fingers through her hair.

Briar let him hold her, loving how he played with her hair. "You were going to the dance..."

Taihphel shook his head, "no, I wasn't, right now, we've a princess to save and a dragon to slay," he whispered in his soothing tone, "this ends tonight. You'll leave the abyss behind you as the moon leaves a blue sky," he said, not knowing entirely how to tell his sister, how she would react. Was she weak, or did he want her to be weak? A question he stored for another day. He continued with his smooth and kind motions, closing his eyes and waiting for his sister's response.

"Oh? Who's the princess and who's the dragon?" Briar asked sleepily, warm memories flooding back of him telling her stories when she was very little, curled up in his arms, just like this.

"The dragon is the wall, the obstacles, the path, and...the princess is..." Taihphel clutched his sister's shoulders, tightly, and yet still gently in a way that almost said he was afraid to lose her, "your knight," he said, quietly. Wishing it was a softer tale, a kinder tale with the brighter side of the rainbow, wishing all in the past was left as the past. But it was still present, and the night was far from over.

Briar was thoroughly confused. "So what's the story?" she asked, looking up at her beloved big brother with big green eyes.

"There is a pain in watching one you love cry and hurt, there is a pain when you know you've hurt them. People only hurt one another with or in their own weakness or to satisfy their own thirsts, to slay their own pain. Somebody once said 'if hate creating more hate created this chaos, we must end it.' in the midst of battle, upon losing the one she loved, upon her comrades looking for their vengeance. She hit the one that had become her enemy, hard enough that her own hand hurt as well; and then embraced her with the genuine warmth and kindness that was her own. Right then, the one she had called her enemy cried the same tears, the same human tears as that strong girl once before did, for even the one that was, to our protagonist, a tainted child was lost somewhere on her path. Afraid and alone in the dark. There is a lesson in that, a will that says 'please have the strength to listen, and please have the strength to continue, please use that strength, not against the ones that hurt you, but rather, to take them by the hand, to guide them, and to let them guide you as well,'" Taihphel began, hoping that that would be enough, "the pain, probably, drove her to the edge, the time limit ran dry, and yet there's an infinite amount of time left, a beautiful lifetime, to continue onward. In this case, thankfully that was so. She tried to take something precious, she tried to take life, tried to become her own reaper. But she failed," he spoke, his voice calm as a passing breeze. All the while, he continued to brush his hand through his sister's hair, and he continued to hold her in his loving arms.

Briar went as white as a sheet and started to tremble. "No no no no...She-she can't have...it was my fault...I hurt her..." She shook her head rapidly, tears forming in her eyes, "No..."

"She's alive though," he spoke softly, Taihphel continued to hold his sister, "very much alive. Alive, and waiting, longing for you. I cannot allow for the two of you to hurt one another with actions and words any longer. From here, please, no more hurt, let there be no more hurt. From here...become the strength for one another. Either one could end it, but when there's still a love, that's..." he trailed off, there wasn't a word. It was sad, painful, and impossible. That much he knew, but there was something else that was missing. He smiled softly at his sister, "strength, love, no more fear, let her lead you, and lead her as well. Believe in yourselves, even if you turn the wrong corner, that bond will hold you strong. Insecurities, troubles, let them out. You don't have to force them, though, they'll come, but there must be patience. And please, don't lose sight ever again, with these tears, there's an obvious love, please, never again. When this is over...please. Smile." he spoke softly, wiping the new tears with a finger. His own eyes looking at his sister, dry, soft, and calm.

Briar took a deep breath, steadying herself. "Y-you're right, I guess...But...It's not easy, Tai. I can't help but remember everyone else...and Mum and Dad..."

"I know it's hard, I can't even imagine how hard, but I know it's hard. But I'll still be here for you, as well, for as long as you need me, I'll always be here. Don't think too hard. People of the past, people of the present, people of the future. They all change, and they all have the capacity for love. Don't see them in one another. They're all different, all loving, all slowly changing, all searching, walking and plowing through their own paths, effected by experiences, weakening, strengths. The view at the top of the mountain is the most beautiful, but the view from beyond the mountain is likewise beautiful. Don't fear them, I won't have you forget people of the past, but the ones that have entered your present can be kind. Find their kindness and never forget it. Even when they give in from weakness and the winds of times. Don't let them stop you. You can offer them your hand, but if they deny it, continue, and remember the intersection as nothing more or less then the past. Because the present is different, time changes the world, but time itself does not change. Time will soften your path, but you yourself must see that. Memories are memories, reminiscence of the ones that impacted your life. Don't forget them, accept them as a lesson learned and continue," Taihphel spoke, the words were a mouthful, and hard to pick out, but there they were, set out. He could take them back no longer, and he did not desire to. He hoped his words would touch somewhere. Spark something. But that was all he could do, hope, encourage, and smile a gentle smile.

"I'll always need you big brother," Briar said with a grin, feeling considerably better. "Now, you have a dance to go to. And while I would ordinarily run far away from such things, I cannot have my handsome, single brother going alone now can I?" Her green eyes were twinkling.

Taihphel smiled kindly upon the change of character, that's the way, but you won't have to bear your burden alone for much longer, he thought to himself. The mention of the dance and his own lacking in a partner made him go mentally rigid. He hadn't been planning to go, and he hadn't the slightest interest, either, to say the least. He reacted calmly, though, laughing a light laugh at the word handsome. He brushed back his strangely colored hair with a strong hand, as he stood. Letting out a kind sigh, his eyes smiled at his sister as he gave her his hand, "well then, shall we depart from this desolate area? Milady?" he asked kindly, his own dark eyes glinting with their loving flame.
